Station 36 and its members are always trying to stay on top of our game. To do this we do many hours of training including many hours of non department training. This week we were invited to the new gas well that XTO Energy is currently drilling along Harvey & Howes Run Road in Buffalo Township. We were there incase of an emergency, we would know exactly what to do. If there were ever a fire on the grounds or rig, XTO has actually adopted the NIMS (National Incident Management System) in which every fire dept. should use in the US. So in that case, it would be very familiar to our first responders when they get on scene and what they will need to do and who to see. XTO also has many other plans in place for containment of any spills they may get on the grounds. The rig is completely surrounded by a "Catch All" type tarp. If there were a spill this would contain it and not let it seep into the ground. For more information on XTO in your town go to www.xtoenergy.com.
